The critical skills work visa may be issued to a foreign national who has a specific skill and/or who works within a profession deemed to be critical in South Africa. The skills deemed to be critical in South African can be found on the new critical skills list. You can access the full critical skills list by clicking here.

If your profession or skill is listed on the critical skills list you will need to prove that you have the necessary qualifications and/or experience. This is done by having foreign qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and by registering with the relevant professional body, board or council.

The critical skills visa may be issued for a period not exceeding 5 years. On the expiry of the visa an extension or renewal of this visa can be applied for in South Africa.
